A strategist plans but a joyful one plans for joy. When did you last feel rested? What are you good at that comes so easy you assume it doesn’t count? Who’s in your corner? Whose rules are you still following? What made you smile today? We’ll tackle these questions with heart and extend an invitation to experiment trying something new and joyful.
Awesome. Good morning coming to you live again for your midweek boost at the joyful. Strategist. I'm Caitlin. Uh, first let's start out how we start out every week. Let's do a one word check-in with how you're. Feeling today and recovering from a little bit of like a cold (laugh). And coughing. Um, but other than that, good. Um, again, no right answer or wrong answer here. How is your body feeling? Your spirit. All emotions are welcome and all are welcome here. So today I was thinking about what I wanted to chat about and I'm just feeling overall.
Really grateful for the friends in my life. How about you? Um, because it's been a little bit of a rollercoaster of a few weeks. And when. I look back now. I know that it was made easier by a lot of. The relationships that I have in my life. Um, and I'm also a big fan of podcasts. So I listened to this podcast. Uh, if you haven't checked it out, I would encourage you to do so, but it's called curiosity shop and. It's co-led by Brene brown. And Adam Grant who I just, um, really admire and respect their work.
Um, but they were talking about Adam Grant's new book called. Vibe the secrets of strong connections in a lonely world. And okay. I swear. I'm not getting. Paid to say this (laugh). Um, but I thought it was really interesting. Um, because when I thought back to when I've been in a tough spot, mental. Mentally really like the last thing I wanna do is connect. With others, because it feels really intimidating to share. What's going on because I don't always know what's going on with me. And, and, um, I don't.
Don't want to. Yeah. Like it just, it just feels hard, but in reality, connecting even informally can be really helpful. Um, when we're struggling, you know, a little bit or a lot. And what I thought was really cool in Adam's new book vibe is he breaks down friends into. Four categories. Right? So like there's just one word. For friends. Um, but he breaks it into four categories. Of types of friends, which I thought was super interesting. The first were associates. So. These people are like you're connected by compatible needs.
Um, he kind of mentioned, like, if you call like a plumber, if you need someone, you know, like that's sort of an. Associate, but they maybe feel a little bit more transactional. Um, the second kinder allies. So if you think about folks. In your life that you share goals or maybe they're like coworkers. Coworkers, but you're on a mission together or like working on a project together that would be sort of. An ally and then there's pals. Pals. So pals are like folks that you just have fun with. You share interests.
Interests and hobbies. Um, and maybe don't go much deeper than that, but every time we get together with them, it's like, wow, that was fun. And then the last category is companions. So I feel like this is the type of. Friends that, um, I was kinda like most in our, in our mind, or like when we say. We should connect. It's like with companions. But these are people that actually, you know, you may not have a lot, but the quality is really high. Because these are folks that share. Your values that you have a deep affection for.
These are like the people who, you know, you call when you're in a bind and you know, they're gonna drop everything and, and come help. Um, so I thought that was really interesting. I'm curious, drop in the chat. If you. If, like, what do you think about these for me? It was really actually eye-opening because. When I think about connecting when I'm in a hard. Space. Sometimes I do wanna call like a companion, somebody who. Is really empathetic and, and I know, sort of understands me, but other times I'm just like, I'm just.
Looking for pal. I need to just have fun and. Cultivating these type different types of relationships. Looks different too. So that was honestly like a big relief for me because sometimes. We say like, oh, you just gotta connect and all the things, it just feels really over. Overwhelming. Um, but we know from, you know, research that. Connection even sort of like a small chat at like the barista at a coffee shop. Is really helpful for our health. So my invitation for this week is. To think about the people in your life.
And maybe connect with a pal to do something fun. Um, that's an on my to-do list this week is to reach out to Appell of mine. That. We just like get together. We met through our sons and she's a mom of, one of. My son's friends and we just get together and play pickleball. And that is really fun. Um, and because you can just laugh and have fun. So what pal do you want to reach out to or companion or maybe an ally? And pour into a relationship or friendship this week. Okay. Make it sell.
