Paella shares reflections on forging her own path, recounting personal pauses, FOMO, and preparing for a long-awaited vacation to Bali. She explores waiting, resetting, and how taking breaks fits into ongoing self-directed growth.
Hey everybody, this is Paella. Thank you for joining me today. I apologize for being a few minutes late again. So, a few logistics that I had to figure out. So, as always, learning to just go with the flow when doing live. So, I hope you all are having a great afternoon today. It's afternoon here in the Midwest. I know that some of you are from the East Coast. So, if anybody is joining from the East Coast, happy afternoon to anybody else, I hope it's still afternoon for you. So, again, this is Paella from your own pathway where I all about empowering you for your own path and to own that path.
So, happy, what? Third week of July or fourth week of July, I lose in count. I remember when I first started, I was remember, this is my first week, my second, my third week of doing lives and now I don't even remember. So, that is a good thing. So, as you can see, I am, well, maybe you can't see, but I am in some bright colors today because I have some excited news. I am going to vacation for the next few weeks here. So, I'll be taking a break from work and from live streaming to really reset. So, I'm kind of jokingly to say, I'm doing my own version of Eat, Pray, Love too.
So, if anybody is wondering where I'm going, I am going to Bali. I am going this Friday and I am packing so I have all these bright colors on. So, thank you, Luke, for singing and joining the vacation. I'm looking forward to enjoying the vacation and not gonna lie. There's a lot of things that may be done before I can go on vacation. You know, it's the whole thing of like, oh my God, oh my God, what does it do? What does it do before I'm going vacation? So, I actually kind of wanted to bring a lot of, not my vacation, but the aspect of waiting in your own pathway and all of that.
So, a little bit about my personal journey and how it relates to your own pathway. So, I haven't taken a huge vacation like this since 2019. So, that's been five years. And of course, when we're doing members, what happens in 2020? So, a lot of things happened for me, not just worldwide, but a lot of like personal and professional that has occurred for me to not take a huge vacation like this until now. So, when you're forging your own path, I'm not gonna lie, I don't know about you guys or you, Luke, but there's a lot of FOMO.
There's so much FOMO in comparison when you are serious about taking your own path and being very accountable for it, while other people get to enjoy themselves and do the things that are so fun in here, it feels like you're on literally a diet. It's like you're on the diet where everybody's like, enjoying the cake and the steak and the soda and the beer and all of that. And here you are trying so hard to discipline yourself. And when you forge your own path and when you're owning that path, the beginning of that path is gonna be so, so, so hard.
And I'm not gonna lie since 2019, since the world opened up, a lot of people took advantage of vacationing again. And I took vacation, I went to like Vegas and Malibu, just for a few days, but it wasn't anything like switzerland or Jamaica or Thailand. The last trip I took was like in Thailand in 2019 and I had so much FOMO. I had so much FOMO when I looked at other people who were going these fabulous trips. And here I was taking pauses. I used to use the word sacrifice and I thought, hmm, does it feel like a sacrifice?
It definitely feels like a sacrifice. It really does. And yet I reframe my sacrifices as pauses. Like, what do I have to pause right now? So that I can work hard, really prioritize what is important for me and what's not important for me so that I can work on that. What I wanted to really focus on was a love vacation. Everybody deserves a vacation. Vacations are great to reset. Vacations are great to really learn about yourself, really to grow and it's so important. And I love that about vacation.
However, I also noticed that I was using vacation as an escape from my reality. And I don't mean to call out people and a lot of my clients and friends and family use vacation as an escape from. So I wish I was on vacation. Why am I home again? I have to go back to reality. I didn't want that to be my coming back to that. So I wanted to create a life where going to vacation was just an added bonus. But coming home was great, where I got to rest, where I got to dictate my time and have control of the things that I could have control of.
And I realized that a lot of people used vacation as an escape from their reality, where they were just book, book, book, book. Nothing wrong with vacations. Believe me, nothing wrong with vacations. However, a lot of people were using that as an escape from the reality. And when you need to take pauses, or when you have to decide what kind of pause you can take, fall temporarily, until you get to your goals, it can be very, very hard. Because you're going to have, again, so much formal. Because other people are going to be living their lives, they're going to be eating the cake, doing whatever.
And here you are, feeling sorry for yourself. Because you're like, God, how come they get to do all of that? How come they get to do all of this? How come they get to take fabulous pictures? I said, here I am working so hard. And when is my reward going to come? And so when you forge your own path, it's going to feel like that. It's going to feel like, is this worth it? Is this worth it? And that's a good question. Is it worth it? Are you willing to take a pause for maybe a year, two or three to have a future in 20 years, where it's like 20 years of you having a control?
Or are you willing to not take a pause and keep on this cycle of just surviving and languishing? When I work with people, when classes come to me, and they are stressed out, they're burned out, they're languishing, they're just surviving day to day. And they really want to have a different life. And I asked them, what is it something that you can put away and come back when the time is right? They think about it, and they tell me I can't. I love my Amazon Prime. I love taking my vacations. I love watching movies.
I love going to this theater. I love buying fashion. I love XYZ. And I asked, is there anything that you can pause on that until you get to your goals? Because if you truly want to have the life that you want, you're going to have to have some pauses on things that bring you joy. Now, it's not taking away. It's just pause until the right time we can come back. And a lot of them respond, I can't. I need all of that. I need all of that because my life is so miserable right now that those things make me happy.
Buying shoes, buying clothes, buying purses, vacations, going out to eat, going out to drink, that brings me a lot of happiness. And I said, OK, I get it. I get it. But is there anything that you can pause right now so that you can work with the goal and the life that you want? And a lot of them respond to me. I can't. I can't. And so there it is. It is when you want to have a life and you already say, I can't, I can't, you're already-- I don't want to say fail. You're not serious about your own pathway.
When you're serious about your own pathway, you really have to prioritize what is important now or what is important later. So vacations are great. Believe me, I love them. I love them. They're so important. I encourage all of you to go on vacation. And I also want you to think, in my news and vacations and other external things, to use as my escape from reality, what is important to you? Do you want to focus on here now? Or do you want to continue this cycle where you're just, again, surviving and thinking, how am I going to get through this?
I'm going to get through this. If I can just get more vacation, I'll be happy. And before I got into my own business, I was very much that person. I always said, oh, I'm so ready to go work so that I can earn more PTO and go on vacation. Now that I am my own business person on my own business, I find that I don't need to go on vacation as much. Don't get me wrong, I love vacation. It doesn't mean that I need to escape my life. News vacation as an escape for my life. So something that for all of you to think about is, where does something in your life right now that you can properly pause until later when you have the life that you are wanting or when you feel that, OK, you know what?
I'm at a spot right now where I can buy the shoes that I wanted or I can invest in a purse that looks very nice or I can invest in a vacation that I've always wanted to go and not use it as a escape from your reality. Unfortunately, a lot of us are using escapism to-- I probably made that work-- escapism. So I'm going to go with that and to escape from our reality. And when you're ready to forge your own path, when you're ready to own that path, really think about what is important for you. Because once you realize what is important for you, for you and to you, you realize that a lot of those things that you thought you needed, you actually didn't need.
And that once you build a life that is truly yours that is important, that is intentional, you realize that all those things that you thought that you needed, you really didn't need. So again, I will be gone for about two weeks. And I should be back in August. I can't believe it's August. So yeah, I'll be back in August. And I can't wait to be back and tell you about my trip and what I learned about myself and more about your own pathway. I am ready for the reset. And I am ready to see what this trip tells me about myself and my own pathway.
So I'll see you in the middle of August. And again, this is Paella from your own pathway where I empower you to forge your own path and to own that path. And have a wonderful rest of your day and take care of yourself and I'll see you in August.
