Growth through teamwork. There are huge benefits from working with someone to advance in life.
The host opens with a friendly morning greeting, mentions the cool weather, and talks about nearly skipping but ultimately taking a cold plunge that boosted his energy and focus.
The speaker pivots to the main topic — being coachable — using sports analogies from his childhood and noting that even successful people can benefit from coaches in different areas of life.
He explains how coaches can act as a filter for priorities in a busy life, shares reading insights about priorities, and describes how a coach helped him decide what to focus on while building his brand.
The host lists examples of coaches (business coach, therapist, boss, teacher), emphasizes being open to feedback, and recommends thoughtfully considering advice even when it's hard to hear.
He promotes an upcoming Sessions by Ledwell event with activities like sauna and cold plunge, offers to coach attendees on stretches, and ends the video with a final call to be coachable.
Good morning, Cadre. Coming at you from another Wednesday morning on the patio. Get it while you can. 54 degrees. I will take that. I almost had a late start here this morning. It was a late night for me last night. And then I thought of Luke this morning when I woke up and I said to myself, oh man, I don't want to plunge today. By plunge, I mean go on my cold plunge. But you got to do the hard thing sometimes. So the payoff is always worth it too. And when I went in the plunge, felt amazing afterwards.
It was almost like I got a full night of sleep with the energy and clarity and focus that I now have. So yeah, do the hard thing. But that's not what I'm talking about today. What I'm talking about is being coachable. There are many different types of coaches in our lives. They don't necessarily even need to have the label of coach, right? But for me, I like to do a lot of sport analogies. I grew up playing multiple sports. Hockey was my primary, well hockey and baseball. But that was like, I just try to make the analogy of the best players in sports all have coaches.
And if you're trying to be the best you in your life, it might be worth it to tap into a coach of some sorts. I just decided to start working with a business coach now that I'm creating my own endeavor and it's been fantastic. Going back to my early sports days, I remember being told from a lot of my coaches that I was a very coachable athlete. So that was pretty cool. It made me feel good. I didn't really know what that meant back in the day or the importance of it, but it always stuck with me.
And it stuck with me to where I'm at right now in a position where I'm building a brand. I'm doing something new. But it also is something that I've done being an entrepreneur, which is essentially create a business, start a brand. So I should know what I'm doing, right? Well, that would be ignorant of me to just say that I know everything and I'm just going to do it on my own. So That's why I tapped into this business coach and it has really streamlined the process of what to do next or what to do right now.
You know, the priority. I read a good book recently that talked about how the word priority used to just be one thing and our lifestyle has change or morph the word priority and to be multiple things where we have to have multiple really important things going on. So if our society has done that to us and there's nothing we can do about it, it's probably good to add a filter system that is a coach, someone to help you decide what's important at the right time and when to say no. And for me, It's been really critical as I trim the fat of things in my life that don't need to take priority.
Sometimes it means saying no. That's unfortunate. I had to say no last weekend after the first round of sessions, sessions by Ledwell, Thomas Beach, another one this Saturday. But there was a good friend's birthday party And a bunch of my friends are going to be there. And it was going to be a late evening on Saturday. And I was already up later than I wanted to on Friday, just preparing for the first round of sessions. 30. So it was like a 12-hour push last Saturday. And had to just say, no, I'm not going to go out.
I got to go home and recharge the battery because it's important that I'm functioning at the best of my ability if I'm going to grow this brand, grow a new brand. So I've, you know, there was another instance where I was working with some people and this is a while ago and The concept came of, hey, we should bring someone in to help us dial this in. And the people that I were working with, they were like, no, why would we want to bring some in? I think the specific words were, if I'm X years old, why do I need a coach?
So the perception of this person was that a coach is only for kids to teach them how to swing a bat. But that is just the wrong way of thinking. At this point in our lives, it might be that it's just as critical to have a coach now than it was back in the day. So if anything, the decisions that you make now are going to have a greater impact now than decisions that you would have made a long time ago. So when I had the opportunity to get into a position where I could hire a coach, that was one of the first things I did.
And a coach could be a business coach. It could be a therapist. It could be a superior at work. It could be a teacher if you're going to school. So I guess what this all kind of boils down to is what I'm saying, being coachable is that's going to help you make the right decisions, is to be coachable. And even if you're working with somebody and it's hard to work with that person, at least take the time to think about what's going on. Think about the decisions that are being recommended to you and then use that information to make your own best decision.
So that's kind of a form of indirect coachability, we'll say. I just made that up. But that's kind of here what I got is just be coachable. Receiving feedback is empowering because people see things differently in our own lens. And when you're getting feedback and working with somebody who can steer in a different direction, take that Take that knowledge, run with it, apply it to yourself, be coachable. So that's what I got here for this Wednesday morning. Sessions by Leadwell is this Saturday. It's an in-person event.
It's going to be a grand old time. Sauna, cold plunge, movement, connection, music, art, nature. Let's If you're able to come out there, then I will coach you through some stretches and how I sauna. So, sessions by Ledwell this Saturday. Be coachable, everybody. We'll see you soon.
