Luke Wetland discusses choosing positivity as a practical approach in everyday situations, explores how one upbeat perspective can shift group dynamics, and offers a workplace example of steering conversations away from negativity.
Luke opens with a brief personal introduction, explains why he values the platform, and frames the episode around the role of positivity. This orients viewers to his point of view and the session's purpose.
Luke introduces a concrete example of a group conversation at lunch or coffee where negative talk starts, asking viewers to consider how they'd respond. This sets the scene for exploring social dynamics.
Luke explains how a single optimistic person can face swift resistance from a negative group, and he encourages letting people vent briefly before steering the conversation. This highlights the social cost and opportunity of choosing positivity.
Luke offers specific prompts and mindset shifts—asking what's going right, considering intentions, and choosing a constructive vantage—while noting this isn't about ignoring real problems. These are tactical ideas viewers can try immediately.
Luke recounts his nine-year-old son's view that he always keeps a positive attitude, using this as a personal endorsement of the approach. This humanizes the message and models the long-term identity of choosing positivity.
Luke challenges viewers to pause when conversations turn negative, test putting a positive spin on things, and observe the effects, then closes with encouragement and gratitude. This gives a clear takeaway and call to action.
Hi everybody, Monday Motivation, Luke Wentland here. I've been doing this for several years. Again, my name is Luke. I've been at Cadre since day one. I live for this place. It's my favorite community in the world, favorite place to be. What's more is every time I participate and every time I come to this platform, every time I come to this app, I leave always feeling a little bit better. And that's what it's all about. You know, do I, am I taking my life to the next level or am I kind of like bringing it down?
So today we're talking about positivity. Some individuals may see positivity as toxic, like toxic positivity, and other individuals may view positivity as like a change agent or the ultimate cheat code. I'm the latter. I believe positivity is infectious. I believe positivity is a change agent. I believe positivity creates immediate barriers between you and negative people and how you show up and how you communicate Positivity is also really critical and important. But so I just want to I just want to like, like scream from the mountaintops this example.
And I know I know people have heard this one before from me, so bear with me if you have. But I think today's a really, really good day to hear it. Okay. So let's say, for instance, you're a working environment. Okay. You work with somebody and in that working environment, you all are slated to go out for a lunch or coffee or dinner, something along those lines. And when you're meeting and you're connecting and you're talking with the regular, the regulars that go out for coffee or lunch or otherwise, like, that maybe some, gossip or negative talk about work or somebody else kind of comes up.
Okay. So let's say you're at this lunch, you're at this coffee and, you know, some negative side talk starts. My question is, what do you do? Do you participate? Are you involved in the same or similar vein? Or do you switch? Like, bear with me when I say this. So there's four of you and you're at a coffee and that coffee turns into kind of like talking about a co-worker or talking about something with the business that's not going well or frustrated about something or another. And 3 individuals are like, yeah, I hear you.
Yeah, I hear you. Yeah, I hear you. And then there's the one individual who shows up and says, you know, I disagree. Like I disagree. I think actually, you know, the company's heading in a great place or You know, the individual that that you're talking about, I really like their perspective. I like hearing from them. I think it's a good a good different vantage. Right. And you're going to see those three or four individuals like drastically shift and it'll almost be like like white on rice where it's like it will be like attack mode almost.
against you, like where you're going to get pushed out of there immediately. Right. So it's like if you have a positive vantage against a negative tone or a negative attitude, I'm telling you, it will it will absolutely what's what I'm looking for. It will converge. Let them let them get out and then channel, let them get it out and then channel towards the positive. Here you roll. And so Love asking what's going right. Yeah, that's a really, really good one. Great perspective check. But when it converges, it will be like a freight train just knocking, right?
Because your vantage as a positive person, an optimistic individual, your very first thing is like, how can I make this better? How can I make this moment better for others? Like how can I step up and say like, I'm gonna show the rest of these individuals that like you can sit here in this hour, you can sit here in this two hours, or you can consistently build that into your routine, or you can change it. And you can change that to be like, you know, I hear you. I understand what you're saying. But I'm going to look at this as a very different vantage.
Or this is how I see this playing out. Or have you ever thought about the intention or the action behind blank, blank, blank? Right? We see this in work. We see this in families. We see this in relationship. All the ships. You see this everywhere. And so I found as the older and older I get, the less patience I have to be a part of the former, where individuals get together to kind of, for lack of better words, shit talk something in like a negative tone and addressing it from a negative perspective.
where I'm looking at it in a positive light going, okay, not toxically positive because there's still some bad things that happened in this world and in this life, but how can we switch our narrative behind it to immediately move like in a positive base perspective? You know what's funny about this is this morning it was 655 and I was talking to my son and I was going, Cam, if there was one thing on Monday motivation, that's my nine-year-old son, said, if there's one thing in Monday motivation, what would you want me to talk about?
And he said, how you always keep a positive attitude through anything. How you always keep a positive attitude through anything. I'm like, gosh, you know, if that's what my nine-year-old son knows me as, somebody who's going to try to always put their best foot forward no matter what. I always keep a positive attitude through. I always try to figure it out and what's best for not only myself, but the family, people I work with, etc. Like I'll take that one. I think that's a, I think that's a good, it's a good overall vibe that I would like to get to.
So here's my recommendation for you all this week. If you are at work, on a phone call, in a text chain, in a group something, and the vibe starts churning negative, the vibe starts churning negative, I want you to pause. I want you to pause and I want you to think about this and say, how can I put a positive spin on this? And I want you to see what that does for you. What are the consequences of showing up that way and being quote unquote like non-conformist in regards to a negative viewer, negative vantage.
And what does it mean for you to do that? Like what does it mean? What's the price that you pay in order to show up that way? So I cannot wait to hear your stories. I cannot wait to hear what happens. in that moment and how it makes you feel. And I can't wait to hear the response. Okay? So good luck with this exercise this week. I think it's going to be a good one. Take care. Sending love. Thank you all for joining. Thanks for watching. This is what I live for. Thank you so much for participating on the cadre train together.
Live it, love it, all of it. All right, you all take care. Peace everybody. Make it a great week.
