A reflective talk linking the heart's pulse to leadership and group dynamics, sharing a river-valley team exercise where 18 leaders calibrate nonverbal communication and respond to real-time information about alignment and movement.
Opener that greets viewers, references a song called Pulses, and introduces the heart/pulse as a metaphor for how we affect one another. Sets a warm, reflective tone for the video.
Narrates a leadership retreat activity where 18 people navigate a balancing platform without speaking. The clip explains the setup and shows how the group had to communicate nonverbally and align their movements.
Reflects on how the group's success came from sensing a shared pulse and choosing to respond rather than react. The speaker invites viewers to notice their own pulse and the world's pulse and to ask, 'What do I need to do here?'
I wanna raise pulses. Cadre, happy Friday. That's a song from the 2014 album Pulses by the group Carmen, who had a couple hits. You probably wouldn't know that song, but you maybe know some other ones. And I love that song. I want to make your heart beat. I want to raise your pulse. It's a really great image of how we impact one another. Our heart pumps to send oxygenated blood and all the other things that travels through our blood to all the parts of our body and brain and spirit and all the things that need those elements of life, right?
So whenever we think about the pulse of our heart or the beat of our body, it's normally a bit of evidence that can guide us to where it is we are and where it is we want to go. I'm glad I'm here. I'm glad you're here. I know the things I know and I care about you. Yesterday I led a leadership retreat for 18 individuals who are part of the fastest growing organization in the state of Minnesota. And they're not just in Minnesota, they are all over the place. But there's a root of this company in the backyard where I call home.
And I took these leaders outside to a river valley where there's elements set up for people to play and consider and solve problems and puzzles that don't mean anything until you say, you know what, this is making me think about. And there was one moment where all of the leaders are standing on this giant platform that's on a post and it could go like this because there's 18 people standing on it. And the goal was to not let it touch down on either side, to stay in this state where all of a sudden they're in movement.
Rose, junk food junkie, Cole, how are you my friends? And it was pretty amazing. This video is about 30 seconds long with the 18 not able to use their voice, not able to communicate in a quick way, had to calibrate and align themselves in a certain configuration without using any words. And they all didn't have the information, so they had to figure out how to communicate without communicating while also not rocking the boat. And they were incredibly successful. which may be like, wow, that's amazing.
But also maybe it's not amazing because they had to consistently be aware of the pulse that they shared together. It was amazing. The second this happened, you saw 18 people go. And the second this happened, you saw 18 people go. Within these little ways, they were responding to what information they were receiving in the moment. That's my invitation for you today. to respond to the information that you're receiving in the moment. That information may be reactive. It may be from a very fast twitch muscle fiber type of space in your being.
Oh my gosh, I can't believe you just said that. Or, huh, let me think about what you just said. All those things are part of this beautiful information gathering system that you have within yourself. Feel your pulse and feel the pulse of the world around you and how those two things dance. Junk food junk. So basically they all needed to find the balance between them by watching each other's body language. Yeah, exactly. They had to respond to the stimulus before they were reacting. They'd go, so what do I need to do here?
That's my invitation. Answer the question, so what do I need to do here? Have a good day. I'll see you tomorrow. Let me jump forward to the chorus if I can find it. I think this may be halfway through the verse, but it's still good. I'm here to wake you up. I want to be your hero. I want to shake the fluff. I be on that beating in your chest. I love that moment.
