Host shares a week of intentionally choosing harder options—walking farther for coffee, parking in the back, logging several miles at lunch, and walking on a treadmill while checking emails—to inject movement and deliberate effort into daily routines.
Happy Monday. Hope everybody's having a wonderful start to your day. Uh, what's more that you've even had a fantastic. Weekend, um, hope you had a really great weekend and did something special for you. Uh, whatever. That might be, um, maybe it was a little bit of goal setting. Maybe it was a little bit of. Exercise, relaxation, whatever you so choose. But I just wanted to let everyone know. Uh, this previous week, um, I decided I was like, you know, I'm just going to choose. Intentionally hard.
Like, no matter what I was like, I'm, I'm gonna choose hard all week. Long. So I'll give you an example. Normally what I do for a cup of coffee in the morning. Is a drive in a very comfortable state over to. Kowalski's and I walk in and I grab my cup of coffee. And I have my coffee and it's like immediate. It's like this. They know me, all the things, right? So it's like, this is an example I did differently say, you know what I'm gonna do. I'm going to drive to Minneapolis. So I'll wait, delayed gratification.
I'm gonna. Wait, and then I'm gonna have to walk over and I'm gonna go walk over. To grab the cup of coffee. Have that cup. And then like, what I found was. Um, in doing and choosing hard. Uh, was this like amazing feeling? Of, for lack of better words, like. Self-fulfillment so in choosing hard, another example is I've. Strategically selected. To park the farthest distance away. Every time, wherever I parked all week, I was like, yo, I'm gonna be the last car way, way back. In the corner, just to go walk in a little bit, it just felt good.
Right? It felt good. Every lunch break that I had this week, any time that I had, uh, away, it was just beautiful. In Minnesota. I told the team like it's on. Um, so I, I banged out anywhere between like three and I think the most, it was six and a half seven. Miles. Um, and so I just hit three miles, six miles, seven miles. Uh, you know, every day, this last week, and it just felt. Amazing like during, um, lunch hours. So I'm like, all right, during lunch, I'm gonna go hit miles. I'm gonna go run.
I'm gonna take advantage of the weather in Minnesota. I'm gonna do that. Okay. Uh, I C I help coach, um, an individual that I meet with. On Wednesdays. And I was talking to him and he had some things that he was working on is. 1, 2, 3, uh, things that like, you know, are the foundational setting of his life. And moving forward. And I told him, I'm like, I just wanna let you know. Uh, you know, one of the things that I really wanna work on is like I get up in the morning. And the very first thing I do is like emails.
Emails, this, this, this, and this it's like, so like I jump into work right away. I'm like, if I'm gonna do that, you know, why don't I get on the treadmill and walk while I'm doing it? So, so I get like a plus one, so I'm gonna like choose hard. So instead of laying in bed, going through all my emails, going through my notifications, doing all the things I'm like, yo, I'll go, I'll go immediately. 5 miles an hour, who cares, you know, just go walk. And so I can get a plus one and choose hard. Right?
Um, this weekend. Uh, we have Bo a Boulder walls going on all over the place. Uh, this is a true story. Uh, you know, they, they need excavation help, right? So you need. Like a, a backhoe or something like that in order to get it or a skid steer. And so one of the things that my wife and I did. Uh, uh, um, early, early, uh, Saturday was, we were like, you know, we're gonna hammer. A couple of the, the Boulder walls. Um, so we just pushed the boulders and moved them together and it was like the most amazing hour workout.
Of all time. So, um, this is why I tried to try to take the bus. And use the stairs. Yes. I love that. I love that, but like, intentionally choosing hard, like, like. Intentionally choosing I'm gonna do something that is a little bit more complicated. In my life in like what I found and what I find. Is I immediately have self-fulfillment. I'm like, you know, I feel good about myself. I'm like, I can do this. Um, you know, even if, like I said, it's delayed. Gratification of when I'm having a cup of coffee.
Right. So just keep thinking this, like. Not everything is like, you gotta get to the gym and do. 700 reps of blank, blank, blank in order to feel good about yourself. No, like you. Can say I am. I'm gonna choose. To make a homemade meal. Instead of going to a restaurant. You know, that's, that's hard, like choosing hard. Like, so any opportunity that you have. I just want to like, try to like, subtly check the brain, your brain, to be able to say. I know I can Uber. Over there. It's eight blocks.
I'm walking. I'm walking. Why not? Let's get an additional 1600 steps today. Um, I love this, uh, uh, Josh says, I love this best way to start. The day is doing something you don't want to. Do, but, you know, you should. This is why, you know, in that viral speech by Admiral McCraven. McCraven, uh, for the Texas commencement speech from, I wanna say like 15 years ago now, 10 years ago. When he said the very first thing he does. Every single day is make his bed. Every single day is choosing hard.
Gonna make the bed. And then of course, when you get home at night, it's great to jump into a freshly made bed. But regardless, um, what's one thing you're gonna choose today. Or this week consistently. That you're gonna say I'm choosing hard. I'm gonna, I'm gonna choose. To make life a little bit more complicated. For me in order to. Feel fulfilled on some of the things that you want or continue to want to do in this. Life. That's my quest for you all have a phenomenal week. Everybody sending love.
