A weekly conversation about the messy, meaningful reality of caregiving, told with humor, honesty, and the occasional slightly ridiculous life metaphor. Come laugh, reflect, and leave with a little more grace for yourself and the chaos we’re all navigating.
The host greets viewers, explains she's live-streaming while seasoning burgers for her teen, and sets a casual homey tone for the episode. This chapter establishes context and why she's cooking on camera.
The host lays out the core idea of Comedy Through the Chaos — that life is imperfect and you should 'let it cook.' She connects the philosophy to her household and the show's approach.
She recounts realizing it was MEA week, forgetting the days off, and how that surprise time became an unplanned but welcome reset for the family. This anecdote grounds the philosophy in a real-life parenting moment.
The host reflects on the value of allowing time to reset, suggesting ways to recharge like walking in puddles or catching up on small tasks. She emphasizes that while the universe sometimes gives breaks, it's better to schedule them when possible.
A lighthearted wrap-up covers family food preferences (mustard over ketchup), streaming schedule, upcoming festival involvement, and plans for future episodes. The host checks the burgers, sends well wishes, and signs off.
Well, hello there. Look at that working out today. I'm very excited. Hi, everybody. I'm Miss Shannon. I'm a variety of word-related things by trade, like a comedian and a corporate speaker and a voice actor and event MC and a benefit auctioneer. And now, surprised, cadre. live streamer. If you wonder what I'm doing, I am shaking some seasoning onto some burgers that I'm about to put into the air fryer for my adorable 18-year-old kiddo who happens to be high supports on the autism spectrum. So I'm now going to put a few minutes on this timer and then let that cook.
So speaking of let things cook, that is a lot of what we do here in Comedy Through the Chaos. We talk about the chaos that we go through in our lives and how you need to sometimes just Let it cook, y'all. Let it cook. That's what we do. We talk about the concept of how things do not have to be perfect. They are by nature going to be imperfect. And that is a lot of what goes on in my household. We are perfectly imperfect. Speaking of this week, this week here in the lovely state of Minnesota is something that I forgot about.
It's MEA week, which is Minnesota Educators Association, I think, but what it really means is that we get a couple of days off from school, which I forgot about this week. But it's a good way where the universe gives you what you need sometimes, not always what you think you want. I had gotten him off to school successfully the beginning of this week and things seemed to be going fine. And then he had kind of a rough morning on Tuesday. And I'm like, Alright, cool. We'll do a reset. And then he was going to get yesterday off anyway because I had to work.
And so I'm the one that drops him off. And even though he's done a good job taking school transportation home this year, I don't feel comfortable dropping him off if I don't know that I'm around even when he's going to need a pickup in case. I was talking to his staff and I was like, well, we'll be back on Thursday. And they're like, no, there's no school on Thursday. So I'm like, we needed a break anyway and the universe gave it to us. I know, I look like I live with poltergeists. I should close these cabinets.
So we ended up getting a break. It's good for us to be able to hang out. It's an overcast day here in the Twin Cities and he likes rainy days and so does his mom. So this is a good day. Hello Speak Wonder! Hello my friend Kathy, good to see you. I was talking about how it's an overclass day here in the Twin Cities and I needed this to be a reset day and it has turned out to be a good day for a reset and it was a reset that I should have had on the calendar but did not. I forgot that we don't have school today and tomorrow because of MEA big hearts to you as well sweet wander look at this working all appropriately so Instead of being like oh my gosh.
I can't believe that we ended up with this time off I am thanking God the universe and spirits that we ended up having it so flowers and hearts to you So it all worked out so he is in there on the couch. I am making him hamburgers We are going to reset the rest of today and tomorrow and I hope that you have some of those in your life and if you have the opportunity to schedule the reset cool but I also remind you that if you don't schedule the reset if you feel like you need one and you don't schedule it yourself sometimes the universe is gonna give you one anyway so It's a little bit better to do it on your own than to be thrust into it and have everything come up as a surprise.
So allow yourself that time to reset. Appreciate the opportunity to go walk amongst the puddles if you have a chance. Make sure that you have time to exhale, to even catch up on some things that make you feel like you're more Set for later kinda thing. I don't think he wants cheese. He does like mustard though. He is a mustard person and we don't do ketchup in our house. I didn't know that that was a genetic trait, but somehow he doesn't like ketchup and neither does his mom. So that is fine. So we don't even have any ketchup in the house.
If you come over here and you like ketchup, you need to BYOK. Bring your own ketchup to the house. But I am glad to be able to be here and be live streaming. Is it funny? So he's having a good time. I'm glad to be here. It's been a while since I got to be able to join you live. m. central here for the parenting edition of Comedy Through the Chaos but this weekend is complex in the next couple of weeks I do stuff with an organization here on the Twin Cities called the Twin Cities Film Fest so we'll be sharing some stories and some opportunities there as well and I plan to be on site doing some things there yeah we're a mustard only people mustard only people shout out shout out the mustard only folks.
So we'll get through the next couple of weeks and see how it goes. So my plan is to share some more content on you about how chaos is inevitable and how you can roll with it appropriately, how you can ride the wave of chaos and find the joy and all of the ebbs and the flows that we need. So it's good to see everybody and I'm gonna go ahead and go and check on those burgers and give them a flip but hearts to everyone good to see you speak wonder and I will check in with everybody on Saturday so please I hope that the day treats you well if it doesn't shame on it not shame on you
