I am a grief coach. I deal with people who are going through all kinds of loss, no matter what kind it is, whether it's related to a death, a divorce, a breakup, a job loss, a move across the country, dealing with a diagnosis. All of that is a reason to grieve. And quite often as I'm talking with people, well, first of all, we don't talk about grief enough. So that's part of my mission is to increase the conversation about grief. Because the more we understand, the more we can help each other and ourselves.
I hear people say, Oh, I wish I could just get over this. This is a fact about grief. You don't get over it. It never ends. Grief is not a cold. It's something you have to learn how to live with because whatever it is that happened, you can't undo. That will always be part of who you are. So wanting, I think a lot of the frustration and misunderstanding that people have about grief is that, Oh, I should be over this by now. I should be all better. I should be back to normal. And none of those things are true.
Normal is going to be different. You have to find a new normal. The only way you can get through your grief is to acknowledge all of the feelings you have along the way. Coming to terms with learning how to live with it. What's the reality? What do I want to do next? If you're in the midst of grief right now, I feel for you. I'm with you. I'm going through my own stuff as we speak. Give yourself some grace. Let yourself feel. And if there's something that confuses you about what the grief journey is, about the experience of going through it, I'd love to hear from you.
What is it you have questions about? What do you need to hear? What is top of mind for you? What do you need help with? There's nothing. Oh, you're not being a sissy if you feel. You're not being weak. if you feel. It takes courage to be vulnerable. So the sooner you realize that you will not get over this, that you have to learn how to live with it. So my challenge for you this week is to experience every feeling along the way and ask yourself, what can I do now? What do I want to do now? So remember, grief is not a cold.
You learn how to live with it. I'll see you next week at this same time. And every now and then I might pop in with a post with a thought that I had during the week. Till then, take care of yourself and be kind to who you are.
