The word is used a lot but how do you live in abundance when things aren’t going well? Is it all about money and material things? We think not!
The speaker greets viewers, sets the scene, and presents Brene Brown's definition that abundance is knowing what enough looks like, framing the rest of the talk.
The speaker contrasts popular 'prosperity' narratives and material pursuits with true abundance, noting how wealth can still leave people fearful and unhappy when they lose sight of what's enough.
The speaker lists gratitude, the understanding that material goods don't bring lasting happiness, and letting go of 'it should be different' as essential aspects of feeling abundant.
The speaker invites viewers to observe abundance in their lives and suggests one or two tangible acts over the weekend to give or receive from a place of abundance.
Brief closing where the host wishes viewers a great weekend and signs off.
Hello, cadre. It is a beautiful day in Los Angeles in October. And I think it's a wonderful kind of ambiance for talking about abundance. Like what is abundance? You know, Brene Brown has a wonderful comment maybe definition of abundance. She said abundance is knowing what enough looks like. And I really like that because I think like it's easy to think about abundance and it's easy like there's all these there's all these wise you know supposedly wise people, thought leaders, gurus, and they talk about abundance, and God's world is abundant.
And a lot of that stuff is very positive, but it can so easily get twisted, right, into being about materialism. like the secret, right? yes, you're going to use your powers of intention to create wealth, to create this, to create that, which there's nothing wrong with that. The danger, I found, the danger is when it means something, right? Or when I lose sight, right, of abundance already in my life. And I think that's maybe the key, right? Is abundance, if abundance is enough and knowing I have enough, then my car is fine, my home is fine.
I don't have the home I want, per se. I don't have the car. I mean, let me say it differently. I have a great car. It's enough. Would I love a different car? Maybe not love, but I would be interested in. But am I upset, disappointed, do I have emotional issues around not having that car, not having that house, not having certain things? I don't. Not anymore, because I do have a pretty strong sense of abundance. I have so much more than I could ever need. And I am not in the 1%. and that's a pretty amazing thing and there are billionaires who are so full of fear and they have absolutely no enjoyment of their wealth and their money because it's just they're just competing with the next person and they just don't have enough and it's not good enough and they're not good enough and they're still trying to quiet the voices that tell them they're not good enough and that's the other part of abundance I've found Right?
I mean, one, there's gratitude, getting grounded and just being thankful for what I have. That's one. Two, it's realizing that none of those material things, that's not really abundance for one, but two, those things are never going to make me happy ever. Lasts about 30 minutes, maybe. And then the other thing about abundance is it's like it's letting go of thinking that it should be different, right? It's this idea basically that I get to be happy with what I have. There's a great line in recovery, 12 step recovery, If you're not happy with what you have, you'll never be happy with what you get.
That is a true statement of abundance. I have friends in the program who are very wealthy. It doesn't seem to define them. They just happen to have a job that gives them a lot of money. And they're very generous with their money and how they use it. That's great. You know, that's the key. So whether it's money, whether it's love, whether it's friendship, whether it's connection, it's just that abundance comes from that place inside of us that says, not only do I recognize enough, but I recognize how to give and receive.
To give and receive. So I think that's the gift, right? That's the gift. So this weekend, I encourage everybody to one, just really notice the abundance in your life. I promise you it's there. I promise you it's there. And then the other is to think about what is one thing you can profoundly do today, this weekend, to give, to give out of a place of abundance. And then what's another thing you can do to give or to receive out of a place of abundance. Hope everybody has a great weekend and take care.
