You said you would do it so do it. You don’t want to do it but you said you would or you know it’s good for you to do it, then do it. And before you know it you want to do it. But no matter what you realize you do it because you said you would.
Hey everybody. I am in Santa Barbara. Just, uh, chilling. I'm just chilling. I was just playing some volleyball. With my friends. That I drove up from Los Angeles. My daughter's laughing at me in the car. Uh, right next door or right next to me. And, uh, you know, Hey T north, how's it going, Luke? How's it going? Um, yeah. So I'm in, uh, Santa Barbara. Just had some lunch with some friends we're heading back to Los Angeles, but guess what? It's 1 31, and that means it's time to do my. Live cuz I do it at 1:30 PM.
Every Saturday and what's the title of this talk. It's just do it. So do you. Remember, what are you in the middle of lunch? Are you doing other things? And you have a talk that you committed to doing. You do it, that's kind of the idea behind. Today's live stream is it's. Easy to not have integrity around my word. Right. How I, I could. Not pay for parking when I'm supposed to pay for parking. Especially when I find out they don't really track that parking. I've done that right. I could cancel my live.
Because I want to spend time with friends. There's a whole list of things. That I commit to do. And sometimes nobody else even knows if I'm doing it. But I do it. The event was amazing. Luke. Um, we really had some amazing speakers. We had a great, we had a good turn. Turnout, not a great turnout. And how about that? That fits with this whole idea of just do it of following through on your word. We had 20. Plus people who signed up and didn't show up. So, you know, what's their word worth? Or maybe it's a, a one time thing.
I don't, I don't know. You know, it's not really my place to judge, but I do know. That my sobriety, my recovery has taught me. The value of my word. And if I say I'm gonna do something. To just do it, but the other kind of connection to just do it is like, in early recovery. Right? I had all these things. That I didn't want to do that people said, but if you do these. You'll get better. Make your bed. What, why should I make my bed? Make your bed. Pray meditate. Talk to people you don't know. Go out of your way to talk to people, come to meetings early, speak in meetings when you don't want to speak.
Just do it, just do it, just do it. Take the action. And the rest will follow. Right. You can, you can, uh, live your way. You can't live your way. You can live your way into better thinking. You can't think your way. Into better living. I can think about getting. Into recovery, but if my behavior doesn't match and that's one of the things we talked about, are at our event yesterday was actually that whole idea of like, what are the. Daily actions I take that I don't necessarily even want to take.
But guess what that they add to my life. They add to my recovery. They add to the quality. Of my life. And then I build this muscle. And then it's to this point where it's not even a debate, if I'm gonna do what I said, I'm gonna do. Because I said, I'm gonna do it. I just do it. Driving up to here to Santa Barbara. I told friends that, you know, they live here. They wanted to have some volleyball. I said, I'll be there. I showed up this morning. They were a little surprised. I was like, Hey. I said I was gonna be here to me.
That means everything. That's congruence. And, you know, that tells people that they can trust me that tells people. That Dan is gonna do what he says he's gonna do. And you can count on that. And if I'm not gonna do what I say, I'm gonna do, I take accountability. I clean it up. I've missed a handful. Of Saturdays, since I've committed to doing cadre and guess what? I've usually had a good reason. Why I wasn't able to do it. I think one time, I just totally forgot. But my point is is like that's, it's not like I'm not trying to get award.
Or anything, I'm not trying to get credit. I'm just simply saying there is something very valuable. When I practice. Really being my word. And when I just do it, when I just. Do it I don't think about it. I don't get into a debate. With people or other things. And, uh, and I've learned. The power of what we call. In alcoholics anonymous. Contrary action. We do what we don't want to do. And we feel better. We get good results. And then suddenly at some point. What we don't want to do, becomes what we want to do.
Or at least what we just simply. Do it's a pretty amazing thing. So for this weekend, I really want you to think about your word. And I really want you to think about the promises you've made and what you said you were going to do this. Weekend, and I want you to be accountable. For that and just to do. Exactly what you said you were gonna do without excuses. Excuses. And if you absolutely can't do it. Then you are really, really clear. About that with others. And again, without excuses. Excuses.
I think that's a big part of being an adult. And I think it's a really, really valuable. Aspect of how we live. So I wish everybody a wonderful weekend. It's a beautiful, beautiful. Weekend here. And, uh, I'm gonna. Take the trip home with my amazing daughter who loves to, uh, tease me make fun of me. Just because she's jealous of me. (laugh) she's shaking her head. I'm just kidding. I love her so much. Um, all right. And, uh, you guys have a wonderful, wonderful weekend.
